Are Silver Travertine Tiles Better Than Other Alternatives? Know How!
One type of limestone that is created by naturally occurring mineral deposits in springs is called travertine. A geological stone made of calcium carbonate is called calcite. The addition of minerals to calcite is primarily responsible for the unique properties of travertine tiles. Because of the range of finishes available, it is one of the most adaptable parts.
Granite, marble, slate, and limestone are some more types of stone. Nonetheless, there is a noticeable distinction between Travertine and other stones, mostly because of the manufacturing process; also, they have a variety of characteristics. Some of the factors contributing to the popularity of silver quartz tiles are examined in this article.
Why Are Silver Travertine Tiles So Popular?
Silver tiles Travertine are quite common among architects, landscapers, and renovators for a number of reasons, such as:
The tile is attractive and long-lasting because to its rich monochromatic tone and natural luster.
Silver Travertine Tiles are resilient to chipping and scratches and can tolerate high foot activity.
Because of its water resistance, it can be used both indoors and outdoors.
Rain, hail, and direct sunlight are just a few of the harsh weather conditions that these tiles can resist. It is therefore a well-liked choice for outdoor use.
In addition to being unaffected by typical weather, Silver Travertine Tiles are also resistant to extremely high and low temperatures. This makes it a well-liked option for regions that are prone to bushfires and extremely cold weather.
Because these tiles won't get soiled or damaged, they make a great substitute for people who want to host outdoor events.
Silver Tiles Travertine can be polished for a luxurious, smooth, and glossy appearance, or it can have reflective surfaces, among other finishes, to meet a range of needs.
A brushed finish gives a hint of refinement and naturalness, while an honed finish provides a matte, flat surface with little gloss.
A rubber-coated plastic barrel filled with water and abrasive grit can be used to hold small pieces of stone that have been cut to a certain size in order to create the tumbled look. This will look naturally worn out and have soft edges.
Silver Travertine Tiles are an affordable choice for flooring and other uses.
Liquids may easily pass through their tiny pores, which makes staining them easier. Nevertheless, this issue is resolved and these tiles become stain-resistant by using a sealer. Though this is rare, it is possible that sealant needs to be renewed frequently.
Maintenance & Care Tips for Your Travertine
When it comes to maintaining and cleaning travertine, "the best offense is a good defense." Prevent pollution, dirt, and other things that could damage or discolor your Silver Travertine tiles to keep them looking their best.
Regular sealing is the most crucial maintenance you can conduct on your silver quartz tiles. An effective sealer will create an imperceptible shield on the stone's surface to keep out water and other potentially stain-causing substances. Reapply the sealer as needed or every few years to maintain it functioning correctly.
Remember to regularly clean your Silver Tiles in addition to sealing them. All you need is a mild cleaner made specifically for natural stone; don't use strong chemicals or abrasives as they could harm the surface of the stone. Please use lukewarm water when mopping or using a hose to clean; high temperatures over time can cause chips or cracks in Silver Travertine tile.
Your Silver Travertine Tile should last for many years if you follow these simple instructions.
Common Applications
Silver Travertine Pavers and tiles are the most readily available and well-liked tile types in Australia. They are well-liked for usage both outside and indoors. These distinctive tiles are perfect for flooring in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, bedrooms, dining areas, and other spaces. It can also be used as a feature wall, mantelpiece stone, or splashback in the kitchen. Among the most popular outdoor uses are BBQ stone cladding, driveways, retaining walls, patio stone pavers, and pool coping.
Choose Premium Silver Travertine Tiles
You can also get in touch with suppliers of high-quality Silver Travertine Tiles, like Stone Depot, which offers expert assistance in selecting the right stone. You can save the cost and inconvenience of having your space dug repeatedly if you plan ahead of time and select top quality.

choosing the Perfect Natural Stone: Tips from Sydney's Experts
Choosing the right natural stone for your construction or renovation project can be difficult, even for designers. Many options are available, including different grain patterns, fossil details, colors, and finishes. These options come in sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic types. Local geology affects cost and availability. Characteristics such as hardness and porosity determine suitable applications. Where do you begin?
This blog shares tips from Sydney's top natural stone suppliers Sydney on how to narrow down your choices. When choosing stones for residential or commercial spaces, it's important to consider various factors. This applies to sandstone, granite, limestone, travertine, bluestone, marble, and other unique Australian natural stones. Let’s demystify the process of identifying that ideal surface material.
Consider Local Sydney & Australian Stones First
Construction projects in Sydney benefit greatly from using local materials like sandstone, limestone, granite, marble, and bluestone. These materials are quarried in New South Wales and other parts of Australia, so there's no need to import them. Sourcing locally helps cut costs and environmental impact. It also highlights the beauty of the continent's nature.
Sydney is built on Triassic sandstone. This Sandstone Sydney is used for architectural feature walls, building facades, landscaping, and decorative touches. It is a local sedimentary stone. Australian granite, marble, bluestone, and travertine have unique fossilized history and vibrant colors. They are perfect for stunning statement installations.
Factor in Porosity
When choosing natural stone, think about its porosity or absorption rate. This measures the tiny holes on the surface. Granite and marble are very dense stones. They have a score of under 0.5%. This makes them highly resistant to water, stains, and scratches. They are perfect for kitchen countertops. Sandstone, limestone, and travertine are porous sedimentary types. They need sealing in wet areas to prevent damage.
Natural Stone Suppliers Sydney offer materials that are great for pool coping, patios, walls, and flooring. They work well because they can be sealed and have drainage materials underneath to prevent problems from exposure. Just steer clear using them for direct food preparation spaces. If desired for beauty, apply an impregnating sealer regularly.
Determine Hardness Rating
Along with porosity, a stone’s hardness determines appropriate applications. This durability indicator rates resistance to scrapes, chips and typical wear. Diamond set as a 10 is the most waterproof. Stones under 7 require careful installation locations avoiding high impact.
Hard yet porous options like travertine (3-4) need quality sealing for wet settings. Soft marble below 5 won’t endure outdoors but creates polished indoor elegance. Other stones like practical granite (7+) combine decent hardness and densities for versatile residential/commercial use.
ConsiderThickness & Weight
Factor in a stone’s weight per square unit and available dimensions/thicknesses. Lighter portable stones work better for vertical installations or where underlying support limits total weight capacity. Large dramatic slabs also require greater reinforcement compared to smaller tile formats.
Know realistic sizing options for your material to understand fastening needs. Work with Sandstone Supplier Sydney able to cut, fabricate & reinforce selections in available factory dimensions or through customized fabrication processes to achieve your vision. Understanding stone weight practicalities results in smart planning.
Conclusion
When choosing natural stone for your projects in Sydney, it's important to consider factors like suitability and visual impact. That's why it's a good idea to consult reputable local stone suppliers like Stonexpress. They offer premium Australian natural stone for residential, commercial, and civic projects of any size.

Errol Kwong Melbourne | Long-lasting Architectural Designs
Do you know that the way you design and decorate your house speaks a lot about you? It shows your personality, flair for design, and taste. That is why it's good to employ designers like Errol Kwong to help you bring your design to life. Errol Kwong is an innovative designer who has designed both private and public buildings in Australia. For all his beautiful projects, he always makes safety and sustainability his priorities.
Read on to find out about beautiful designs and decors that are available in Melbourne, Australia.
Home Designs and Decor in Melbourne
Stone Designs and Stone Furniture: According to Errol Kwong, a Melbourne resident, and designer, stone designs are now popular in Melbourne. It is common to see houses with monumental stone decor. Inside these houses, the living rooms normally have custom tables, fireplaces, sofas, artworks from famous artists, and rugs. The fireplaces are designed with limestones with limestone benches in front of them. This is then followed by luxurious oceanic lamps to light up the rooms in the dark.
Where the design came from
This wave of design came from Italy, a country famous for its wine, architecture, sports cars, fashion, and food. In Italy, cities like Milan and Rome use rocks formed from different minerals to design and decorate their homes. To them, stones represent solidity, integrity, and longevity. Therefore, Melbourne architects borrowed stone design ideas from Italy and used them in their designs. They especially integrated them into designing family homes for clients.
Monolithic Designs with Limestone Decor: Melbourne designers use emperor bricks to design hallways. The bricks are monolithic blocks with limestone deposits that preserve the building for a long time. It is often common to see such a timeless design in a three-story building in Melbourne. This type of design is typically seen in Melbourne's suburban areas.
Wooden and limestone designs for the kitchen: Erroll Kwong from Australia, says that many Australian homes have wooden and limestone kitchen designs. You'll find cook-tops, American oak ceilings, island benches and walls in white colours, and sandblasted wooden cabinets drifted with veneer. Then, there are also limestone tiles for the floors and walls, and vessels for decoration. This is followed by custom-made solid brass, kitchen stools, and glass screens that pivot. These are architectural and home decor designs that have little effect on the environment, yet last long. They are ideal for families with children that want to build a house to have roots in a community.

MARBLE
Marble is one of the most luxurious stones and is highly preferred because of its natural grain patterns and high luster which infuses a rich and elegant look. Marble can be broadly classified into Italian marble which is quarried from Northern Italy and Indian marble which is primarily quarried from the Indian state of Rajasthan. If you are confused between these two options then this guide will tell you whether Indian or Italian marble is more suitable for your home.
Makrana Marble: Makrana is the source of the marble used in the Taj Mahal. It is situated at a distance of 60 km from Kishangarh and falls in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan. The region has various mining ranges, mainly Doongri, Devi, Ulodi, Saabwali, Gulabi, Kumari, Neharkhan, Matabhar, Matabhar Kumari, Chuck Doongri, Chosira, and Pahar Kua amongst others.
Rajnagar Marble: World’s largest marble-producing area, with over 2,000 gang saw units located in the nearby town of Udaipur to process the material produced. Agaria is a variety of this area, with numerous other varieties and patterns, primarily in white base. The marble is dolomitic and often has quartz intrusions.
Andhi Marble: Located near the capital city of the state of Jaipur (also known as the ‘Pink City’), it is dolomitic marble with intrusions of tremolite, and is commonly known by the name of pista (pistachio) marble, because of the green-colored tremolite against an off-white background. One of the famous varieties of this area was known as Indo-Italian, owing to its resemblance with Statuario Marble. Most of the mining of this famous field is now banned by the Supreme Court of India because of the vicinity of the area to the Sariska Tiger Reserve.
Slumber Marble: Also known as Onyx Marble, it has thick bands of green and pink hint. A resemblance to Onyx Marble from Pakistan gives it this name. This is also highly dolomitic.
Yellow Marble: Jaisalmer stone is found in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. Though not been metamorphosed and hence is still a limestone, it is known as Yellow Marble in trade circles. It is mined in the Jaisalmer District.
Bidasar: These are ultra-basic rocks in shades of brown and green color found in Rajasthan. The crisscross linear pattern gave it a remarkable resemblance to a photograph of dense forest. These are also known as forest green/brown or fancy green/brown.
Gujarat – AmbaJi White Marble: It can be compared with Makrana Marble. It is highly calcic and is produced in a town called AmbaJi (famous for its temple of Durga Devi). The marble has a very soft and waxy look and is often used by sculptors.
Rajasthan – Abu Black: This is one of the rare Black textured marble available. Only produced in the mines of Abu road, this black textured stone is a decorative marble used in temples and sculptures.
Madhya Pradesh – Katni Range: It is famous for its beige-colored marble which is dolomitic but highly crystalline, with very fine grain size and some quartz intrusions. The marble accepts polish. Another variety of the same range is red/maroon-colored marble.
Indian Green Marble: It is found in Rajasthan India, Indian Green Marble’s most quarries are situated in Kesariyaji it is 60 km far from Udaipur Rajasthan India. This Indian green marble is known by name all over the world. In Europe, people know Indian green marble as a Verde Guatemala. Many varieties are available in Indian green marble. Indian Green Marble is exported to Africa, Europe, Australia, Middle East, and many Asian countries. It is found in the Rishabh town of Udaipur District state Rajasthan of India.

Appearance
Italian marble has a luxurious crystal-like appearance and a high lustrous sheen while Indian marble has a medium luster.
Both these types of natural marble are available in a wide variety of color options and natural grain patterns.
Strength and Durability
Indian marble is available in a thickness of about 30mm while the thickness of Italian marble ranges between 18 to 20 mm.
While the latter is much softer, it may develop small hairline cracks over a period of time.
A thin nylon sheet is used as a backing for this type of marble so that it can provide extra reinforcement.
Also, Italian marble has to be treated with epoxy resins and matching pigments to increase its strength, hence one side of the Italian marble is always pre-polished so that it can hide the chemical resins.
Maintenance
Italian and Indian marble have the tendency to lose their luster after a few years. Therefore both should be periodically polished to retain their original shine. Marble polishing can be done by using carborundum stone and tin oxide.
All the liquid spills on the marble should be cleaned immediately.
The routine cleaning of both these types of marble involves cleaning with a mild detergent or with mild cleaners which are specially formulated for cleaning marble.
Since marble is a delicate stone, it should never be scrubbed. Italian marble and Indian marble should be sealed with impregnating sealers which create a protective and stain-resistant surface.

Interior Design Aesthetic- modern or traditional?
Interior design? On a hashtag menswear blog? Just when we thought 2020 couldn’t get any worse...
Given that I am in the throes of renovating a house, I suppose I’m obligated to tackle this question. Full disclosure, however: While I may play a clothing savant on TV, my design and aesthetic expertise barely extends beyond a couple classes in college and pretty Instagram feeds.
Perhaps it’s in this ignorance that I’m hesitant to “label” my design bents or predispositions. Interior design, much like clothes, is at the mercy of its vessel. There are no shortage of really cool pieces or insanely nuanced outfits that I genuinely enjoy, while also realizing there’s no way I could ever pull them off. Clothes should reflect your personality and accentuate your body’s strengths while distracting from the bits you’d like people to ignore. Design has the same intention for the room or home or project to which it is applied.
My firm belief is that every room in a home should be able to stand on its own. Sure, there should be some consistency – a unifying color palate, complementary trim, inviting and coherent transition spaces, etc. – but I really enjoy rooms that make a statement. This doesn’t mean loud colors or unnecessary clutter (unless, of course, it does), but I feel like every room should have a personality and a uniqueness that makes it memorable.
Moving onto my current project, my wife and I have decided to tackle a 1930 Colonial. It’s more or less a full renovation, and we aren’t using an interior designer on the project (pray for us), so we’ve really been thoughtful with what we want the home to feel like. We’ve decided that the home should remind us of all of our favorite places in the world (after all, home is where your memories are).
The house will be an absolute mish-mash of elements, styles and pieces. I’ll call the living room “Academic Industrial French Countryside” – floor to ceiling steel-framed French doors stand with light, clean lines juxtaposed with dramatic crown molding and an ornate, if fire-weathered hearth. The furniture will look like a fistfight between Louis XIII and Herman Miller. By way of the vibrant butler’s pantry and bookshelves (we’re thinking a strong but tasteful shout of racing green, “just past the buoys” blue, or “ambulance passing in the fog” red) you enter a very clean and modern kitchen. The kitchen will be large, as that’s generally where we entertain, but the room itself will be defined by its materials. The marble countertops and backsplash will rely on limestone invaded by iron oxide and feldspar to create deep flashes of greens, browns and yellows, juxtaposed with clean-lined carpentry dressed in tones of ecru, creating a nice contrast from the darkly stained hardwoods.
Off the kitchen, the dining room will double as a trophy room, sporting cluttered walls of souvenirs and mementos from places we really dug. Medals from Henley Regatta, an abstract oil painting we bought off the street in Ireland, a collage of famous swimming locations in Australia. The room is going to be a mess in the best possible way. We’ll likely balance the menagerie with a cutting pop of color (Fire engine red chairs set around an espresso-stained Federal dining table? Maybe.)
Heading upstairs, through a staircase lined with heavy, gilded framed oil portraits, we envision our master bedroom will borrow heavily from our times in Marrakech. A bit of a North African flare never hurt anyone, right? We’re thinking restrained, yet intricate tile in the bathroom offset by clean, minimalist lines with rounded entryways cut into stucco-textured walls. This bit of African flare will stand next to the study, which will likely feature walls in a deep but loud pop of color, lit by large windows overlooking a park. You can take in the views from precisely-designed Scandinavian furniture.
Well would you look at me? I’m rambling. I don’t think anyone needs a written tour of my home, especially considering the renovation hasn’t even started. That said, I think I did a pretty fabulous job of not answering Anon’s question, which is exactly what you, my faithful readers, expect.
When it comes to design, whether that design is worn or lived in, don’t limit yourself to one school of thought. You should have fun and break rules and invite others to question your taste. After all, we’re all learning together over here.

Limestone Gorge
I observed this mosaic-like textures on the walls of limestone gorge in Bungonia National Park (NSW, Australia). This texture resembles patterns of the “honeycomb” weathering (have a quick Google search), however each “tile” lacks the depth in its pockets. More importantly, this place is about 80 km from the coast where formation of honeycomb texture is initiated by the salt derived from a sea spray… So, some other factors have to be contributing to this etching of limestone cliffs in this gorge.
I could not find examples of this reported in a scientific literature, but while doing my research on this, I found two potential causes that caught my attention: microbes and wind. One would require access to scanning electron microscope (SEM) and other scientific instruments to determine what microbes or fungi are living on the surface, so this remains to be tested. However, effects of wind can be deduced from simple observations.
Notice that some pockets have uneven depths, they appear to be caved in more near their left-side boundary, and then shallow out towards the right-hand side. This would be consistent with wind action. As, when wind blows over the irregularities on the rock surface it will create low pressure cells that spin like a vortex which then can contribute to slow physical erosion and deepening in one spot. This pattern can be observed in many pockets as you can see on the images, and, the bigger the pocket the deeper it is, which would also be consistent with the wind powering bigger vortex as the pocket gets bigger. This narrow gorge surely gets windy, which makes me wonder whether wind can be a significant contributing factor for formation of this texture.
Have you seen anything similar?

Granite - Made from the same materials as granite from Greece, this natural stone is highly absorbent and has been used for thousands of years as flooring on walls and floors. This material can be treated to resist fire, water and air damage.
Marble - Made from a combination of volcanic ash, limestone and marble, this material is the perfect choice for use in kitchens. It is very hard wearing and durable and adds a touch of class and style to any room.
It is also one of the most environmentally friendly options. As stone, granite does not contain any toxic elements, making it a safe option for use in a commercial environment.

choosing the Perfect Natural Stone: Tips from Sydney's Experts
Choosing the right natural stone for your construction or renovation project can be difficult, even for designers. Many options are available, including different grain patterns, fossil details, colors, and finishes. These options come in sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic types. Local geology affects cost and availability. Characteristics such as hardness and porosity determine suitable applications. Where do you begin?
This blog shares tips from Sydney's top natural stone suppliers Sydneyon how to narrow down your choices.
